Imagine this: You’re a famous singer or rapper; probably the hottest thing in the free world. On stage you are a God and drowned out by the incessant screaming of your fans. For whatever reason, you’ve decided to complicate your life- just to see what’s trending about you on social media. Disappointment and depression ensues, when you find out people are trashing your name, making fun of you, and even making viral memes about how awful you are. Beads of sweat are formulating at your temples because you are in panic mode. You rush to your phone and dial up your publicist. Angrily, you try your hardest to convince them to fix everything. Isn’t this a terrible scenario? It sounds like a nightmare for the most part. This is what celebrities go through every day– invasion of privacy and unnecessary drama all the time.
Okay, so, Jimmy Kimmel does this segment on his show where he lets celebrities read mean tweets about themselves from fans around the world and you get to see the celebrity’s reactions to them. For the most part, this is hilarious. Best case scenario, you may never get to experience this spectacle, but it is definitely noteworthy. Ultimately, everyone hates reading bad stuff about themselves. In this case, celebrities are no different. However, the comments are so much funnier than normal. Sometimes, society can be ridiculously over-critical. In show business, there is no such thing as bad publicity. If you are trending somewhere, it isn’t exactly bad news, even if what’s trending is degrading, humiliating, or untrue. Besides, internet trolls aren’t these esoteric, elusive groups of bandits that people make them out to be. They are just everyday people who are jealous. This is laugh out loud funny. Enough, to make you want to watch it over and over again. Watch Drake, Common, and Wiz Khalifa read mean tweets about themselves. Check it out below.
