Early in our education, we are often told by our parents, teachers, guidance counselors, etc. how important it is to go to college. They make it seem as though pursuing higher education is the only way that you are ever going to be successful in life. As a result, they tend to apply a certain kind of pressure that makes college seem like an absolutely necessary thing. For some of us, that works. We breeze through grade school, then high school, then college and just like that, we have some fancy degree and I guess we’re ready for the ‘real world,’ which starts with us being up to our noses in student loan debt.
But what about those of us who college isn’t for?
Speaking to that is Chicago emcee Konflik, as he has allowed us here at RESPECT. to premiere the visual for his new song called “Take Notes,” which is featured on his latest album, Maturity.
“They sell you a dream,” Konflik says of college. “I attended business school and also school for Graphic Design. In the end, neither was a great fit for me and left me with a financial burden. My whole life, people I knew emphasized education over pursuing music; it’s the other side of the coin. That path is not for everyone.”
Maturity is available now, and features guest appearances from Masta Ace, SwizZz, and Shawnna, who is probably most known for her work with Ludacris. After you watch “Take Notes”, below, cop the album here.
