“Underrated, underpaid, under appreciated” is a line that stands out in the opening of Freddie Gibbs video for “Freddie Gordy,” which is off his 2015 project Shadow of a Doubt. Gibbs starts off the Jonah Schwartz-directed clip with a spoken word voiceover of sorts as while he begins his journey with the camera behind him.
Like the track itself “Freddie Gordy” is both reflective and retrospective as the Cali rapper tackles some of his demons with hard hitting bars at times looking at his own reflection in the mirror. While facing himself he also takes a pull or two. Something that many out there do when they are looking for a way to escape their current situations or state of mind. Gibbs reminds us that sunsets aren’t always pretty.
