Kendrick Lamar is not the kind of artist that any audience can watch live. If you haven’t see him live, you can watch him from the comfort of your home on television this weekend. Lamar recently performed hit singles from his Grammy-nominated album, To Pimp a Butterfly, on the PBS popular concert series, Austin City Limits.
The Top Dawg Entertainment executive moves the crowd with his poetic rhymes. Lamar kicks off the show with his single, “i;” the selection is quite appropriate for the venue and the audience. The crowd recites lines in unison and “turn up” with the beloved rap star.
The song “i” may give the people a vibe to empower, but “Wesley’s Theory” is Lamar taking the leadership role of traditional lyricist with the crowd wrapped around his finger and hanging on to his every word. The third song, “Hood Politics,” shows the 28-year-old rapper in a more serious performance in comparison to the other tunes.
Watch Kendrick Lamar perform “i,” “Wesley’s Theory,” and “Hood Politics” on Austin City Limits below. Feel free to leave comments.
