“The Fire” was definitely the place to be Thursday night (January 14th) in Philadelphia. The very intimate space filled up quickly with fans and random off-the-street prospectors who were there to see a great show and great artists perform.
Philly has had an amazing underground rap scene for a while and popular curator, Veli ( The Veli Brand), has played an instrumental part in helping these artist to be able to perform on a platform in front of potential fans. New Breed 4 is of course the 4th installment of the “New Breed” series by Veli — Thursday night, New Breed 4 was able to host some acts like; Theodore Grams (seen on Sway in the Morning), Badland Breez, Mir Fontane, Dave Amigo, Eddie Madrid, Harvey Cash, and Journell Pierre.
Theodore Grams gave a very exciting performance and he also unveiled a new song off his forthcoming tape that he did not let us know much about, titled Trillions, which was produced by Noah Breakfast and John Hill (Rihanna’s Producer). Closing out his set, Grams reminded each person in the crowd to support the other artists who performed previously, because they work hard for the fans — I totally agree.
Mir Fontane, South Jersey representer, performed some amped songs and got the crowd hype when he turned on his popular song titled “Wanni Wag” featuring Ish Williams. Mir definitely became someone to put on your radar for 2016.
Each of the artists put on a great show, but I have to highlight one in particular who took the MVP. Badland Breez hails from North Philly, but has a very unique sound that you may hear from likes of some Atlanta artist. Breez took the stage and without a doubt had the crowd jumping to the ceiling performing songs like; “Underdog“, “Stick Em’ Up“, “Death To Them H*es“, and “40.40“. As I watched Breez perform, he had looked as if he’d done it 1000 times before — the stage was like his natural habitat.
Overall, New Breed 4 was a huge success and we all left with a few new favorite artist — Check these guys out!
