M.I.L.F delivers more of their artistically signature crassness on “The Player Haters Ball.” As a follow up to “10 Beers Deep,” TPHB is the second project in merely a month, quickly growing the catalogue of the DC collective. Avi, Phlegm, Sleaz, Tedy, and Mitch offer organically brash sonics, combining elements of archaic gangster rap with slow flow melodies consistent with Hip-Hop’s wave of digital trap ethics. TPHB embodies an aesthetic that Hip-Hop is lacking; A counter-cultue attitude that muddies the line between overt vulgarity and musical ingenuity. Harder cuts like “Gimme Head” and “Ran Through” lend way to softer melodies like Sleaz’s “Fuckwidme,” which chronicles a vibrant, intrinsically softer side to the trap. M.I.L.F’s 11-record project plants a much needed abrasiveness back into music. Welcome to “The Player Haters Ball;” Proceed with caution.
