The hype surrounding Jacquees’ rise as Cash Money’s heavyweight crooner may be actualized with his newest project, “Mood.” What “Mood” accomplishes is simple; Quees soulfully and masterfully serenades a blend of older, purer R&B with the brasher, explicitly creative wave of todays sound. The 16-track project includes features from Dej Loaf, (Set It Off) Kirko Bangz, (T Shirt & Panties) and Kevin Gates and Young Scooter, both blessing “9.” Birdman puts his touches on “Ready” and “On It,” (along with his emphatically signature “RICH GANG” ad lib throughout) In an already commercially viable offering, Jacques also re-works “Come Thru,” this time around with Rich Homie Quan, adding even that much more appeal as one of R&B’s standout releases. There may be a ways to go before he reaches a pinnacle “Like Baby,” but as the harder side to R&B eventually shifts generations, Jacquees looks to be first up.
