Hammond, Indiana is a forgotten city gripped with violence. Lifelong Hammond resident Leroy Howard Jr. is head of community organization Eastside Community Council and determined to change the city from the inside. Howard reached out to Omekka of indie mega group Famsquad (and Hammond, IN native) to contribute to a song that would inspire the community and speak on his group’s rise from humble beginnings to successful music career. Omekka suggested to enlist other local talent to emphasize the community nature of the record and a song was born.
The record is a charity single where all proceeds go to Hammond Indiana’s Eastside Community Council to fund youth programs. Both Famsquad and Leroy Howard view it as an opening salvo to a greater program to improve the opportunities for children and incubate a greater ecosystem in the city.
