Spike Lee has just unleashed the gripping trailer for his greatly anticipated movie, Chi-Raq. No, this isn’t a visualization of the trap culture in Chicago. If you know anything about Spike Lee, you’ll know his exceptional ability to magnify deep issues crippling the black community and turn and present them in electrifying, controversial yet easily digestible way.
In the trailer the women of Chi-Raq unite to tackle the ceaseless gun violence issue in Chicago. They begin a movement, vowing to deprive the men of the city from sex until they put the guns down. The film is a reworking of ancient Greek comedy, Lysistrata, written by Athenian playwright Aristophanes. The movie features an all-star cast including Samuel L. Jackson, La La Anthony, Nick Cannon, Angela Bassett, Wesley Snipes, John Cusack and more.
Chi-Raq will be available for a limited release in theaters on December 4, and on then on Amazon Instant Video.
