Up and coming entertainment and music mogul YRS Jerzy has been making a great stride to taking his career to the next level. He has been gaining recognition from some of the top figures and publications in music. With roots starting in New Jersey and spreading out to Charlotte, NC, he has been able to connect with different scenes and learn the industry in between. We get to know more about YRS Jerzy when it comes to his background in music, why he chose to manage NephLon Don and Slide Dillinger, his recent tour and what is next.
RESPECT.: Where did your origins in music begin?
YJ: I started seriously doing what I do at around 17. I was a DJ hosting a couple mixtapes and then I made the switch into the up and coming music mogul I am now. I started really getting into the process of this business early so I had a lot to learn. On the way I had people that helped me get to where I’m headed now. Being out here in Charlotte I linked up with almost everyone that was into music just like I was.
RESPECT.: How did these origins make you want to put on for the hip-hop scene of NC? Did you see something lacking that you wanted to improve?
YJ: There’s a lot I feel like the scene needs but I rep New Jersey all day (laughs). Being in NC right now I get to focus on things that I wouldn’t be able to being back in NJ. First, I think artists out here in NC should seriously take classes on the music business. I feel like artists don’t really know how to do things in a professional manner.
RESPECT.: You went from working with artists of 90’s vibes to now a more contemporary sound, why the change?
YJ: I work with a variety of people and I feel like sometimes change is good. I still work with artists that have that 90’s sound which will be releasing soon. It’s always nice to work with different people and switch things up a little bit. I’m just working on expanding to another level and I feel like I need to just work with more people that can help me build and get to that next step.
RESPECT.: How did you come across NephLon Don and Slide Dillinger? What made you say, “These are the artists I want to work with now?”
YJ: Slide Dillinger has been my brother from day one so he’s always been with me making moves-we just made everything more official by getting out and making things happen. We have so much in the works which includes another tour coming up in the fall. NephLon Don is an artist I discovered that has more of a different type of sound which I feel can be mainstream as well.
RESPECT.: Tell me more about Neph and Slide. How do they differ and compare?
YJ: Slide and Neph both have a street mixed with mainstream type of sound. Slide is more lyrical and Neph is more of a trap based artist. They both have different ways of delivering music out to the public and people are starting to take notice and I think that’s dope.
RESPECT.: How did your show ‘Tremont Trap’ in Charlotte back in May turn into a nationwide tour?
YJ: Tremont Trap technically wasn’t apart of the tour but I just ran with it since the tour was at the end of the month leading into June. Tremont Trap was a success so I will be doing more here in Charlotte once I’m done focusing on all these out of state and soon out of the country shows. Just want to give another shout out to everyone that made it a success.
RESPECT.: How did you start your own touring company?
YJ: I started learning more on how major labels work and looking at how the game was set up. There are labels that do what I can do for myself so I decided to learn how to really do everything. In the fall, I will be announcing another tour with my bro Slide Dillinger and another special guest artist.
RESPECT.: What’s next for you and your camp?
YJ: Look out for more shows, music, visuals and etc. I personally will be doing more behind the scenes work soon because of all the progress I have made from doing so-just stay tuned. We’re all working on great projects and many other ventures, so be on the lookout and follow up with me on social media.
