By this point, many are aware of rapper Lil Wayne‘s departure from Cash Money Records and his monetarily inspired beef with his mentor Birdman. During a recent performance at KMEL’s Summer Jam in Oakland, CA, a new development in the controversy occurred when the Young Money artist announced to his fans, “I just signed a deal with my motherfucking idol Jay-Z.” Although many are shocked about the move with Jigga to Roc Nation, it has been a long time coming.
Back in 2013, Jay Z claimed that he could have signed Wayne, but didn’t want to ruin his relationship with Cash Money’s Baby. Speaking to The Breakfast Club, the Brooklyn rapper stated,
“I called him out of respect like, ‘Yo, I was talking to Wayne. Just to let you know. Boom boom boom.’ So, after that I think we received a letter at our office for like torturous [sic] interference from a lawyer… I would rather lose that situation and do the right thing than the opposite. ‘Cause I think I could have signed him. I could have signed him and then, told him after. I did the right thing and I’m cool with that decision.”
As of right now, it is unknown what type of deal Weezy has; it could be a management deal or a deal to release the highly anticipated Carter V.
