Chicago’s Tree teams up with production duo Blue Sky Black Death for “New or Leins/Training Day,” which has me wondering, where has this been all my life? Tree’s newest project “Trap Genius” deviates a bit from his “Soul-Trap” signature, but the mix of his gritty vocals with BSBD’s dark, highly ambient trademark production is an ideal fit. Looming chimes on the record’s intro sets the stage for Tree’s divergent rhymes and melodies, creating an eerie landscape broadcasting from the streets of Chicago. Let’s hope for our sake, (and the sake of Hip-Hop) these three link again in the future.
