Spring is coming next weekend, which means Festival season has arrived.
Each year in March, Austin, Texas, becomes the mecca for all things entertainment – SXSW (South by Southwest), the annual music, film, and tech festival that brings together music connoisseurs, film buffs, and the tech displays. This weekend, tens of thousands of people will see the latest and greatest in live music, short film screenings, and interactive technology.
The SXSW festival, which began in 1987 as just a local music festival, has exploded into one of the most anticipated events of the year, with this year’s convention expecting thousands of interactive exhibitors, 2000+ musical acts (SXSW 2014 boasted an all-time high of 2200 musical acts over just six days), and 150+ short films, as well as 30,000+ attendees. To the average convention goer, prepare to be overwhelmed – but an exciting experience.
SXSW has made it easier for those who cannot make it to every event, conversation, or showcase: Their Soundcloud will be available to listen to conference sessions, you will be able to watch live talks, performances & more on their YouTube channel, and follow them behind the scenes on their Tumblr.
To help narrow down some performances you should watch, we’ve shared a list to check out: The list of official (and unofficial) artists includes names like Action Bronson, Run the Jewels, Rae Sremmurd, Doomtree, 2 Chainz, Madlib, Ghostface Killah, Lil’ Wayne, Raekwon, Freddie Gibbs, The Pharcyde, Busta Rhymes, Big Sean, Mick Jenkins, Chali 2na, Fat Tony, Dillon Cooper, Mick Jenkins, Grandmilly, Que, Key!, ForteBowie, Quest and many more. Are you still feeling slightly overwhelmed? The Festival even provides a schedule grid of your favorite artists, genres, speakers and more on their official website.
This year, it has also been announced that Snoop Dogg will deliver the SXSW Keynote Address. The keynote takes place on Friday, March 20 at 11:00AM in Ballroom A of the the Austin Convention Center.
This year will be the festival you don’t want to miss. So enjoy, be safe, and network!
