PREMIERE: YT! Goes Bananas In Pajamas In Turnt-Up Single "Bounce"

YT! is a Toronto artist who can accurately be described as a walking “Turn Up”. As energetic and lively as he is onstage, that energy translates itself equally as well to his music, “Bounce”-his new Single from his upcoming debut EP Yours Truly, being a prime example. To be sure, this is great club music that probably works even better in a strip-club. YT! is only 22 and one would say has a knack for making sparse, uptempto music that’s found it’s way to plenty of DJ’s in the 6 over the last couple of months. Our interview reveals that apart from being a former AAU player, being a studio rat is clearly his favorite activity. Opening up explosively for both Meek Mill and A$AP Mob has given YT! a reputation for physical acrobatics (as an example, the standing somersault evidenced in Hit Em) that weirdly matches the way he is all the time: naturally wired.

1. Where you from in Toronto? How long have you been rapping for?
YT!: I’m from Sauga City, I’ve been rapping for 3 years.

2. What is the concept behind your single “Bounce”?
Y: The concept behind my single “Bounce” is to bring high energy that makes the ladies turn up, shake their “Holy Rump” and feel good about themselves. Good Club Music.

3. What does YT! stand for?
Y: They call me “YT!” it stands for “Yours Truly”.

4. You have worked with the Toronto legend Choclair on your song G.n.G. How was that like?
Y: He’s considered an OG and a Legend so working with someone like that was amazing inspiration. I learned a lot from doing that song with him. He’s a genuinely cool dude. It was taken down recently on youtube for some reason and we just re-uploaded it.

5. New project on the way?
Y: Yours Truly is the debut EP that I want all main bangers to go on, I expect that to be out sometime in the new year. But not everything always fits on a project so I do like to put out songs if I like them.

6. Do you feel like Toronto hip-hop is at it’s best right now or is there
more room to grow?
Y: Where I stand, Toronto hip-hop is at good place, every era has it’s own time. So the energy I feel and what I imagine my peers feel is special and deserves it’s own attention.

7. It’s NBA season! Which team are you repping?
Y: I’m from the “Six”, I live and die for the Raptors.

8. Despite making a King James song?
Y: Yes.

9. What are some of your plans for 2015?
Y: My plans are to continue releasing intense bangers, go on the road and tour to allow fans to embrace my high energy and take my talents worldwide. I’m very focused on that. Everything else will fall in place for me as long as you focus on my craft and keep my ear to the street.

10. What can your fans catch you doing when you’re not in the studio?
Y: When I’m not in the studio you can catch me playin ball -I used to play AAU in Florida, or eating at one of the finest restaurants in this city. I may be a foodie on the low.
