UK producer Kaytranada (otherwise known as Kevin Celestine)has been hard at work cranking out future R&B electronica. Readers may know him from his soulful dance remixes of Chet Faker‘s “Talk is Cheap” and Pharell‘s “Happy.” Little do the masses know that he’s been working extra hard on another project, The Celestics with his younger brother Louie P.
Last May, the duo from Montreal dropped their debut LP, Supreme Laziness, on HM&W Records. This pairing follows in the recent trend in the industry for rappers to team up with savvy electronic music producers. Kaytranada’s smooth beats are both nostalgic and futuristic at the same time. His mastery of the sonic chill-out combines with Louie P.’s easy, conversational verses to create a sound that feels both soothing and spooky all at once.
Yesterday, The Celestics released the first visuals for the LP, a video for the song, “Charles Barkley.” The brothers goofily teach the viewer the five basic steps to playing basketball successfully. While on the one hand slightly cheesy, there’s something intimately compelling about the video—as intimately compelling as the rest of the pair’s music is.
