Enyce, a young rapper from Chicago just dropped the video for “Life’s Good (Soda Pop)”. Five years ago, sometime between the release of Wiz Khalifa’s Burn After Rolling and Kush and Orange Juice mixtapes, high school freshmen everywhere searched through YouTube for any Wiz Khalifa they could find. One of the cyphers that he did was a particular standout, back in the days when Wiz still wore triple XL t-shirts and fitted hats. He started the cypher with the lines, “Life’s good/So I’m feeling great.” These lines, that came from such a rare video that until now were hidden in the depths of rap music cyberspace, form the title of Enyce’s new single, “Life’s Good (Soda Pop).”
Enyce uses the opening lines from Wiz’s cypher as his chorus in this new song. Pre-teen rappers are rarely relatable, but Enyce’s enigmatic optimism catches on. Think of a youthful version of Sicko Mobb. Chicago boppin’ music about soda pop instead of Oochie. Different, but good.
