Though EarMilk finds him creepy, Abel Tesfaye is undeniably sexy. His first album House of Balloons, aka Trilogy Part 1, remains the most standout release by The Weeknd to date. There’s something about the desolation and carnal need on these tracks that really speaks to the inner demon within us all.
Yesterday, Montrealean dancehall DJ Jacques Greene released an edit of one of the most prolific tracks on the album, “What You Need.” Greene originally made the track back in 2011 and forgot about it, but luckily enough he found his old edit buried deep in his computer.
In the song, Tesfaye gets down and dirty, whispering into his girl’s ear that he is the only ‘drug’ she’ll ever need: “He’s what you want/I’m what you need.” His quiet self-assurance is absolutely mouth-watering. This track was dark and sultry enough without Greene’s house-beat layed over it, but now it produces an added head rush. Greene’s caption, “for the late nights,” fits absolutely perfectly with the way this song makes you feel — a little bit spooky and a lot bit turned on.
Check out Greene’s mix on soundcloud, which includes a free download.
