The chief Chicago oddball of them all, Chance The Rapper, clearly knows how big he’s getting. It doesn’t show in any kind of ugly egotistical or misguided radio single kind of way. Instead, it’s giving him a supreme confidence that is letting him wield fans’ suspense with ease. “Aug 3rd” he tweeted not long ago, naming the date of his Lollapalooza performance, but also instantly setting rumors that an album / song / video / atomic bomb would be dropped on that very date. That same confidence is on display here, in the 1 minute video for “I Am Very Very Lonely,” Chance‘s sweet, pouty “Solo Dolo,” that came out in early May. The video doesn’t even feature Chance physically, but that lack of a need to appear actually comes off as artistically strong, as does the slight piano-stab alteration to the “Lonely” instrumental. The brief clip ends: “I’m coming over. August 3.” He knows you know what it means, and that if you don’t you sure as hell feel like you should.
