About a month ago, Abdu Ali tweeted “Butch Dawson is like the Pharrell of Baltimore,” and it was an accurate association, if not early prediction, when taken in the proper context. For the last couple of months, we’ve been diggingthe synthy sing-songy “leaks” off of Lower Mercury, including the addictive “Yada Yada” and “Loser Machine,” and it’s been one of the projects we’ve been looking forward to the most. Dawson‘s Lower Mercury changes the perception and sound of what an emcee/producer in Baltimore might’ve been perceived to sound or looked like before, and he does that very well.
