Statik Selektah is at it again. The Boston beatsmith hasn’t only rounded up a solid trio of thoughtful MCs in Ab-Soul, Jon Connor, and Logic, but his on-point throwback production brings out the best in each rapper. Soulo completely demolishes his spot, spitting more exciting wordplay in this one verse than was on most of These Days combined (“It only makes sense they sleep on the creator of Pineal Gland,” “If this less sick (dyslexic), then play this shit backwards,” “I’m guessin you live in fear now, so be it, / When they speak about the real, Soul be it.” Connor jams his verse full of tightly wound syllables, and Logic surprises with some vivid tales of his working life, from desk, to countertop, to corner, to stage.
