Tonight, BET Networks presents a 4-part hip-hop documentary, THE MESSAGE, which is centered around the music’s influence on American culture. The documentary features Ice Cube, who recounts his first memory of hip-hop, Kendrick Lamar, speaking on West Coast hip-hop, as well as Nas, Russell Simmons, and many more. The first episode, “The Birth and Proliferation of Hip Hop,” takes us back to the music’s roots in New York block parties. Don’t miss the history of the genre recounted in this series, airing June 4 at 10:00 pm ET on BET.
