Mac Miller’s Watching Movies With the Sound Off came out one year ago and it’s still quite the ride. In celebration of the album’s anniversary, though, Mac liberates the original version of the album’s opener. While the cut that made the CD has a far more robust and engaging backdrop, the original is laid back and quietly sad. All of Mac’s rhymes are in tact, but they hit a much more contemplative tone. Instead of hallway club confessions after ingesting three more tequila shots that we hear on the album, we instead get the feeling of sitting in an apartment on a rainy afternoon going over past mistakes. Depending on the listener, this may be the far superior version of “The Star Room.” Listen below.
