Zilla Rocca & The Shadowboxers sure know how to put on a show. Turning their stunningly dense and quick track “Shoot The Piano Player,” from April’s No Vacation for Murder into a one-act noir thriller was the right idea, but choosing to tell the story–of assassination and flight from the scene–with two long takes running at once, was inspired. Gluing the “before” and “after” clips (starring guest MC Has-Lo) together is another long take. This one finds Zilla and Has-Lo telling the whole tale, full of Ghostface-level detail (“Kashmir around the nape of his neck”), directly to the camera, as they sway back and forth in a room of frozen-in-time partygoers. Everything from the sound to every detail of the video encapsulates the lost era that the story takes place in. This right here is showmanship.
