Bobby Grant’s influences span from Drake to Chris Brown to PartyNextDoor. The Chicago native, who makes up half of hip-hop collective InviteOnly does an amazing job of fusing together dark and distorted elements of rap with an approach that makes you feel mildly uneasy. On his debut “Stay True,” the 18-year-old shows off his skills by masterfully flowing above the hypnotizing beat, creating an airy and melancholic sound. Another highlight is the production, courtesy of DRMZbeatz.
“[It’s about] not changing for what people want me to be. Also just going through life and tough situations…describing the stories of how people start to hate on you once you find your passion,” Bobby says about the track, which we’re pleased to premiere below. “Stay True” is zone-out music at its best – showing an up-and-coming MC, who is ready to take center stage.
