By now, you’ve probably heard that Wayne is “back.” What about “Believe” really is anchoring that point, though? Our money says it’s the invigoratingly weird nature of his bars. Remember when, on Da Drought 3, (which has all but become shorthand for “when Wayne was good/the greatest”) this man spat the lines “And when I was 5, my favorite movie was the Gremlins / Ain’t got shit to do with this, but I just thought that I should mention” over Mike Jones‘ massive “Mr. Jones” and it fucking worked? That spirit lives here on “Believe Me.” Just check a few absurdist examples:
Diamonds in my Rollie face, cannot be exfoliated
Nigga I’ll fire this nina like it’s her first day
On the job and the bitch oversleptTape a couple kilos to the bitch stomach
She look like she got a bun in the oven from me
Preheat…
As long as Wayne keeps this odd balance of letting his stream of consciousness run wild and keeping up some quality control (erasing those subpar ideas), he’ll be just fine, if not a lot better, on Tha Carta V.
