Derek Wise is a 22-year-old artist out of Toronto who falls in line with much of what Toronto has been producing over the last few years. His music is brooding and dark, with muddy production underneath lyrics of drugs and women. This is not to say that Wise’s sound is generic, though. One listen of his new single “Awkward” and it’s evident that his ability extends far beyond the average music favored by glass table girls around the world. Produced by his in-house collaborators Cristo Meth & Lantz, the first single off his upcoming Mom’s Basement project is aggressive and dangerous, with the feeling of being in a bad area of Toronto at 3AM.
