Exile and new partner in crime Johaz are back with a crisp and powerful new video single from E&J. Johaz digs deep here, reminiscing on the most painful parts of his upbringing with distinct poise:
But they ain’t know that my grandmom was drinking now
And they ain’t know that my uncle Charles was tweaking now
Or how my real pops used to put the beatings out
I wonder if he thought I was effective
At 4 years old, the first time I was molested
13 years old, the first time I was arrested
Just tried to see the world from my dad side perspective
Johaz is a fantastic writer–a less talented hook writer, but oh well–and he is captivating over Exile‘s signature stomp-clap rhythms. This song truly stands out for its brutal honesty, and the choice to leave us alone with stark images of Johaz is a fitting. Enjoy “Old Time’s Sake” below.
