Though a week has passed – and a week is a significant length of time in the age of the internet – since the latest Grammy Awards and the revelation of some very surprising, possibly undeserving winners, the pain of Grammy snubs is still fresh for some. Teaming up with Action Bronson, Neon Icon RiFF RAFF details the critical qualities that the Grammy voters failed to recognize in his music. Bronson and RiFF have worked together before (“Bird on a Wire” & “Long Pinky”), but this is the first time that the pair’s work feels more plug-and-chug than collaborative. Another way to put it is that this is a RiFF RAFF song featuring Action Bronson rather than a joint venture. There’s nothing wrong with that; it’s just a new occurrence.
SK Da Hitman provides the instrumental, keeping the elements light but engaging. Fluttering keys and pounding bass drive the beat, but they’re not overbearing, allowing RiFF and Bronson‘s flashy weirdness to shine through without any impediments. It’s also worth mentioning that is probably one of RiFF RAFF‘s most polished choruses. Like he told us in our interview with him last year, he’s no longer taking any chances. This is possibly his only shot, so he has to be in top form. Listen to the track and RiFF and Bronson‘s previous collaborations below.
