The gruff-voiced Queens enigma, Shirt, now has a brief album–full of intrigue, rattling, 2AM beats, and strange, bold lyrics–to his name. Last April, Shirt dropped the dope slideshow-video for “Automatic,” and since then, he’s faked a New York Times article about him, all in the name of creating a buzz. A guy who doesn’t want to be found easily (see: his name and album title) that fakes press for himself? A guy who delivers lines like this with the same seriousness that he reps his city and proclaims he’ll fuck you up?
It’s 6 ‘o clock in the morning, I call him, he doesn’t pick up the fuckin’ phone–why? / There’s people that don’t have iPhones / My man’s one of those people / Somebody get him an iPhone.
That’s a guy who’s worth 30 minutes.
