Pell‘s mixtape Calphonic was released in 2012, but he’s not quite done presenting it to the world. For the”EST 2005″ video he goes underwater, submerging himself in the memories of his former home, New Orleans, which he left when the levees broke back in 2005. The song and the video are both characterized by longing and nostalgia – Pell very gracefully floats over Stacc‘s solemn, paced instrumental as both a singer and rapper – but there’s still an element of hope, implying that the same water that can take life can also give it. Likewise, the same memories that make Pell homesick can possibly help him settle into his new home; only time will tell. In the meantime, watch the video below.
