When it comes to iconic symbols commonly appropriated by rappers, cowboys rank very low on the list. For reasons that are easily guessed, rappers tend to appropriate iconic gangsters like Scarface and Al Capone, comic book heroes (especially from the Marvel Universe), basketball players and even other rappers. For “K.I.L.L.A.S” Loaded Lux pulled an Ice Cube and decided that cowboys also had a symbolic affinity with rappers. Teaming up with Fat Trel, he describes his crew and their dirty deeds in stylistic detail, comparing himself to Django and using the cowboy as an actual muse rather than as a gimmick. This is all possible because of the instrumental, which heavily samples a western-themed whistle and amplifies its cowboy spirit with some shrill and hype synths. We can’t locate the producer, but whoever it is, we give them a solid salute for the creativity and ingenuity. Watch the video below. The song comes from Lux‘s September mixtape, You Gon’ Get This Work, which is named after his career-shifting rap battle with Calicoe.
