Mac Miller‘s transformation over the past year has been quite profound. On “Erica’s House,” we see this transformation culminate in an excellent performance of his now characteristic self-deprecating, deadpan delivery. “I hate white rappers,” “They say my pussy smell like pine needles” and other absurdities are peppered throughout his verse, delivered with stone-faced seriousness. Even the instrumental seems to participate in this deadpan aesthetic, languidly unwinding like it’s making that dreadful morning walk from the bed to the bathroom. Despite the humorous atmosphere of the song, it’s important to remember that this is just one dimension of the Pittsburgh rapper. According to him, he’s got four albums finished, so we’ll be seeing many more sides to him in the near future. In the meantime, listen below.
