“You Know The Rules” is clearly a throwback to a time of the ever-present DJ scratched piano sample, but what keeps KVBeats and Rashad‘s collaboration firmly in the now is the two MCs’ sheer rhyming ability. Don’t be fooled by their nonchalant delivery, both guys completely deliver in style–with complex, inventively conceived rhymes–and in substance–both cover a lot of territory, commenting on hip-hop and their personal lives. Rashad truly shines on his feature: “My words to you now are precious memoirs / that just happen to rhyme when the pen is in my palms / facing plenty of odds left me with blemishes and scars / but in the end, Rashad will reach nothing less than the stars / regardless of what hand was dealt to me from my destiny’s deck of cards.”
