“Wade in the Water” is the first single from Homeboy Sandman and Paul White‘s upcoming collaborative project. Referencing a famous negro spiritual, Homeboy Sandman adopts a solemn, conversational flow, using his characteristic cleverness to warp words and their meanings into unfamiliar forms. Paul White‘s instrumental works perfectly for Sandman’s antics, prominently featuring a looped guitar strum that’s subtly staccato. Though Sandman‘s chorus is a little dry, pun intended, overall the song is a success. These two definitely are not a mismatch. Listen below.
