Producer Sa’eed has crafted a brief EP featuring a cosmic sound that he describes as “space lounge.” It’s an accurate and clever description, but there’s certainly more to be said, especially in regard to Sa’eed‘s sequencing of drums. While his spacey synths drive the project, the sequencing of the drums is the preferred point of entry. Inspired by drum n’ bass, his drum patterns bounce, break, collide, converge, and shatter like marbles in a microwave. For instance, on “Prism,” the counter rhythm to the opening drum sequence partially engulfs the prominent rhythm and then vanishes, like a predator that only got one bite of a crafty prey despite its seemingly well-planned pounce. That’s not your normal, bland drum sequencing.
The EP is brief, but that makes it easier to loop and become more familiar with. According to Sa’eed, Luna is the prelude to an upcoming audiovisual project that is tentatively titled Cosmic Clockwork. Enjoy the EP below.
