Smoke DZA lives in a world where everything is functioning properly and in its rightful place. On “Err Thing Valid” he details this accommodating world, even noting that certain things outside of it, like stop-and-frisk, potentially threaten it. Jahlil Beats‘ subtle instrumental colors this world, oscillating between wandering synth beeps and concentrated bass thumps. DZA does a good job of tonally matching the beat’s wanderings during the intro to the chorus, but the phrase “everything valid,” which doesn’t quite match the beat, is what ultimately anchors the song together.
