Continuing the gradual release of songs from his recent compilation album, PA 2: The Director’s Cut, producer Marco Polo brings us “Drunken Sleuth,” a collaboration with the always-insightful Detroit rapper Invincible. Rapping from the perspective of a private investigator consumed by her current case like an alcoholic consumed by the hunt for booze, Invincible outlines how Detroit became bankrupt, simultaneously pointing fingers at the people responsible and giving an account of how their actions have affected the city. At one point, she even wishes for a “Detroit Wikileaks.”
Marco Polo generates an atmosphere of mystery, using identifiable sounds from the mystery genre to make the stakes of Invincible‘s investigation more clear. In the end, Detroit’s situation isn’t something that can just be shrugged away. Neither is this song. Listen below.
