Chicago rapper Lyriq has bounced around the label system a little bit, but now he’s independent and trying to make it on his own. In addition to seeking something different from the [lack of] opportunities given to him by the label system, he’s also seeking alternatives to the women he typically dates, who are typically beautiful yet vacuous. “Something Different” brings this reality to the screen, showing some of these women and explicitly emphasizing their physical traits. These women might actually be deeper than Lyriq claims in the song, but the video is unsurprisingly more focused on proving Lyriq‘s claims than subverting them (It’s his video, after all.) Watch below. The song has an atmosphere of longing that’s genuinely affecting, whether you believe Lyriq or not.
