If you’ve spent a decent amount of time with Danny Brown‘s music, you know that tucked within the humor, the goofiness, the bravado and the libido, there’s a fair share of darkness. These distinctive elements rarely appear alone, but at different times, some are emphasized more than others. Three years ago, for Halloween Danny decided to release a video for “Cyclops.” It’s definitely identifiable as a Danny Brown song – there are various visual and aural references to Caillou, the X-Men, Candyman, vaginal secretions, hipsters, etc. – but it’s clearly a different time in Danny‘s career. If you wanted a context for Old, here it is. This is old Danny Brown, braided and upbraiding. Watch below.
