Trailers for music have been and always will be, hit or miss. There’s just something about an album trailer that doesn’t match up to a film trailer. New York City skater and rapper Black Dave isn’t having that problem, however. Embodying the Black Bart cover art from head to toe, Black Dave sells the project in an interesting way. Odd Future has really capitalized on the mischievous skateboarder persona, so it’s hard not to think of Tyler when watching the trailer, but any such thoughts are purely coincidental. Black Dave really is channeling a Black Bart Simpson.
And even more interesting is the fact that he evokes that rebellious spirit of Bart Simpson all while being slightly polemic. During the latter part of the video, you can hear an excerpt of his song, “Million Man March,” which has a political bent to it. Black Bart drops on September 17 and is definitely something to look forward to. Watch the trailer below and check out Black Dave‘s track “N.D.S.” as well.
