There has been a resurgence of the classic 90s NY sound as of late. From Joey Bada$$ to Bishop Nehru and even Anti-Lilly, the “golden era” sound hasn’t been forgotten by the younger generation. 22-year-old Portland producer Phoniks is in that category as well. Recently, he linked up with Brooklyn rhymer Awon for a collaborative LP that sounds like it was made 20 years ago (which isn’t a bad thing).
