Locksmith is very capable of dropping bar after bar after bar, but he’s interested in more than rapping for rapping’s sake. “You Never Know,” a song from his recent project, The Green Box, is a meditation on the fragility of life. Backed by a melancholy piano loop and a distressed chorus from Jarell Perry, Locksmith reminds us of our mortality and our impotency when it comes to resisting it. If that sounds depressing, that doesn’t seem to be the intention. Locksmith seems to be more interested in encouraging people to value life, especially the people who act as if they are immune to life’s whims. Watch below: the visuals are intriguing.
