The days of taking a hot song and reclaiming it as your own are far from over. Attempting to reclaim “Bound 2,” the last track of Yeezus, Canadian rapper Shad nearly makes it his own. His voice lacks the bitter resentfulness of Kanye’s, which really invigorates the original track, but Shad still brings the track to life with some introspective reflections on relationships and some humorous asides. It’s different, but still engaging. DJ Skratch Bastid handled the scratches. Listen below.

Yeezus lacked the lyricism I’ve grown to expect from Kanye. Shad’s version gave me the lyricism I was yearning for. Unreal.
While Kanye did a great job, I’m loving Shad’s version because of the
level of intellect and how he structures his lyrics. Having been a Shad
fan for a while, I’ve grown used to his works and so I thought he
upgraded the song. Much love to Skratch Bastid as well.
No disrespect to Kanye, but I think Shad gave it an upgrade
The best part about the original “Bound 2” is that it’s a soulful breath of fresh air at the end of the very dark Yeezus. As a standalone track though, it’s not all that impressive outside of the production and the lyrics are as simplistic/misogynistic as the rest of Yeezus. Shad definitely kills Kanye on the lyrics here. Now the verses have soul to match the sample/Charlie Wilson’s incredible hook.
bam. On Kanye’s face, it must not feel good to get merked on his own song. Especially from one who think he’s a God.

To be honest, i like this more than Kanye’s version! Kanye’s verses on that song just seemed rush and had no memorable lines, and that “brad reputation line made me cringe lol. Shad did an awesome job and i love the little piano (or synth maybe idk) at the end! very nice.
