Somebody might have jumped the gun. According to the Adult Swim website, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib‘s song “City” wasn’t supposed to drop until July 22nd, but alas, here it is. Characterized by that hazy Madlib sound, “City” features frantic verses from Karriem Riggins and Freddie Gibbs over an instrumental that belongs in a Hannah-Barbara cartoon.
Gibbs and Madlib are supposed to released their collaborative effort Pinata later this year. It’s an unexpected pairing, but if “City,” is a reliable indicator or their chemistry, the project should be fantastic. Furthermore, according to Potholes in My Blog, the collaborations for the album are insane. Listen to “City” below.
