Statik Selelektah blessed the internet with this gem yesterday. “Bird’s Eye View” is the latest taste we have been treated to from Statik’s upcoming album, Extended Play, coming June 18. Khaled isn’t the only one putting together formidable trios: Rae starts things off well, his flow as controlled and polished as ever, and the Pro Era captain carries the two-spot with character, bringing his signature third eye references and chunky rhyme style, but the undeniable highlight is Black Thought. He brings an unmatched passion and poetry that you won’t realize you’ve missed until you hear it. It is hard to praise his verse too highly; it is full of quotables–“My sonogram was image of a gun in the womb,” and “I use the same tools to shoot that Kub-a-rick used,” being two of the best–but his delivery is what elevates him to chilling heights. Having Statik Selektah’s soulful, dramatic production behind him certainly didn’t hurt either. Stream below or support and buy at iTunes.
