The Black Hippy bruiser, ScHoolboy Q, dropped this snarling ode to flipping weight early Friday. “Yay Yay,” featuring production from Boi-1da, is the first solo work we have heard from Quincy since last year’s Habits and Contradictions. The man behind Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” and Eminem’s “Not Afraid” finds a solid musical balance balance between his signature polished sound — the subdued, underwater samples and bass drums — and ScHoolboy’s far grimier depths — the threatening slice of some well placed hi-hats. The hook is one of ScHoolboy Q‘s catchiest yet, a good sign for his upcoming major label debut entitled Oxymoron.
