Live From the Streets is a music video series project born of producer Mr. Green and director Sam Lipman-Stern. The project aims to give a voice to the voiceless by showcasing original talent from street artists and performers. Mr. Green turns the impormtu performances into hip hop beats, while Mr. Stern creates a music video for the song that always features the sampled artist. This is definitely a project worthy of RESPECT. because highlighting raw street artistry while simultaneously giving back power to those deemed powerless is an initiative that any true hip hop fan can appreciate. This week’s episode features Malik B from The Roots, who holds it down with fellow Philadelphian Mr. Kevin Brown.
For this episode we went to Rittenhouse Square in Philly where we bumped into Kevin Brown. Kevin is a veteran street performer that has earned his stripes traveling across the country via freight train. He played us an original song and then told us a couple stories from the road. After that we went back to the lab and made a beat out of a piece of Kevin‘s song. Finally, we got Malik B from the Roots to spit a verse on the beat.
This is a special song because it’s the first time Malik B has ever been in a solo music video
