Azealia Banks has found a way to create a definitive sound. Her latest, “Neptune,” featuring British rapper Shystie, mimics the flow from her hit “212,” while diving deeper into the underwater motif. Pretty sure this whole track came together in the past couple days:
The beat is a joint called “Heston” by Ikonika, an electronic artist affiliated with Kode9’s Hyperdub label. In the British bass music world, female artists are even rarer than in hip-hop — so shouts out to Ikonika. This collab feels appropriate. Let’s see what happens on Azealia’s new aquatic-themed mixtape, Fantasea, dropping soon.
