Earlier this month, when videos surfaced of a Kanye-related project being filmed in Prague, it was unclear whether the videos were related to Cruel Summer or to the rumored video for “No Church in the Wild.” Now we know.
Though The Throne and Frank Ocean are absent from the video, fire, elephants, police brutality and civilian unrest take their places. Directed by Romain Gavras, the man behind M.I.A.’s controversial “Born Free” visuals, the video channels the anger and resentment of the Occupy movement and the UK protests of last year. Some people will attempt to connect the visuals of the video to radical beliefs on behalf of Kanye and Hov, but let’s be real: these two guys are millionaires who frequently remind people of their wealth. They are not radicals. That being said, the video still has an interesting conceit. See it for yourself.
