With ELmatic, the Detroit lyricist really might have had the best mixtape of the year– one would’ve been highly suspicious of that actuality a few years ago. Today Elziggy drops the visuals to one of the highlight tracks off of the aforementioned tape. Just listen how he (not coincidentally similar to the artist whose debut album this mixtape is inspired by) so tangibly creates images and stories with his words, all the while playing on the theme of it being just a dream, a collection of memories.
Defend every corner that you slung,
Hung with all your dead homies slung
But now they got breath in their lungs
Looking forever young, before they were stressed
In here they only dress in nothin’ less than Guess
Timberland, Tommy Hil, Rockports, and a Pelle
I reach down and grab a beeper while I’m searching for my celly
Check out the video after the jump; a montage of old clips of underground lyricist lounges and hip-hop shops, juxtaposed with the ever-tame Elzhi sitting on his throne as he travels down his own memory lane.
